Every Moment Can Be A Tweet

The roar of the crowd has been as loud as ever as sports fans around the world have taken to Twitter to connect with the Games. With more than 162M1 Tweets already sent, these are some of the biggest moments for @TeamGB, global athletes, and brands.

Team GB Moments

Team GB (@TeamGB) has enjoyed the most successful start ever experienced by a British team. By day four alone the team's medal haul already stood at 13 making for a stellar beginning to Tokyo 2020.

Swimmers @tomdean00 and @Dunks_Scott made unforgettable waves in the pool securing gold and silver in the same race for @TeamGB’s first time since 1908. Duncan Scott went the distance to become the first British athlete to win four medals at a single Games.

For @TomDaley1994, the drought was finally broken as he finally bagged his long-awaited gold medal.

Where swimming and diving successes led, equestrian followed. Dressage champion Charlotte Dujardin (@CSJDujardin) became the most decorated British female Olympian of all-time receiving royal recognition.

From equestrian tracks to cycle tracks, @JasonKenny107 cycled past Sir Bradley Wiggins previous position as @TeamGB’s most decorated Olympian of all time. While on the gymnastics floor, Great Britain’s women's team dismounted into bronze position after a 93-year medal gap. From champion to legend, @TeamGB’s greatest ever gymnast @maxwhitlock1 swung into gold medal place for an astonishing third time.

Skater Sky Brown (@skyandocean_) created history in the first ever Olympic skate bowl by becoming the youngest medal winner ever for @TeamGB at just 13-years-old.

The total medal count for @TeamGB currently stands at 51, with undoubtedly more to come.

How Brands have Tweeted the Games

With the action from Tokyo lighting up our timelines, it’s no surprise that brands have been keen to get involved. From the start of the Games, @British_Airways has been flying the @TeamGB flag.

Meanwhile, Tokyo 2020 official coffee sponsor @CostaCoffee partnered with athletes to offer Games sized prizes.

For Playstation UK (@PlayStationUK), Sonic showed his 100m skills, while video games have been proven to be very much on the radar of athletes.

As the official supermarket of @TeamGB, @AldiUK put in a strong performance with its messages of support as @TeamGB athletes rack up the medals.

The @TeamGB sponsor @ToyotaUK has been using moments to celebrate the success of athletes.

And the competitive spirit looks to be contagious as @marmite took on @Hellmanns in a battle of the condiments — who would be victorious?

Global Moments

The rest of the world has also revelled in unforgettable moments during the Games. The Philippines celebrated its first-ever Olympic gold thanks to weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz (@diaz_hidilyn). For Team Japan, a new record was set as 13-year-old Japanese skateboarder Momiji Nishiya took the title as one of the youngest gold medal champions.

Team USA’s @Simone_Biles made a tough decision to withdraw from the gymnastic floor team final in order to prioritise her mental health. An outpouring of respect, support, and comradeship flooded Twitter from across the globe.

This made her decision to come back and compete in the balance beam competition and win bronze all the more meaningful.

And Finally

It appears that @TomDaley1994 is not only a master of diving but also knitting — in particular dog jumpers.

With many moments yet to come, remember to keep up with the conversation on Twitter.
